William Erhart was born in 1951 and raised on a farm west of Pine City, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota and received a BS degree with distinction and was invited to be a member of several honorary fraternities. He then attended the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, and received his Juris Doctor Degree. He was admitted to the bar in 1978 in Minnesota.
